As e.g. http://europe.cnn.com/2002/WORLD/europe/04/07/germany.lights/index.html
reports, we had a nice phenomenon over southern Germany yesterday. Unfortunately, I didn't see it.
As you can imagine, we now have a nice flood of bad astronomy on tv and in papers. It's really depressing that one still mixes comets and meteoroids, as it was really speculated that the phenomenon had something to do with Ikeya-Zhang. The only good point is, that until know no-one has claimed the landing of little green men, they better shouldn't land in Bavaria as the Greens are pretty unpopular there...

I have had the good fortune to see several fireballs at various times. It is impressive when you have to stop and make sure someone is not toying with you by shooting off fireworks /phpBB/images/smiles/icon_smile.gif

We can all be glad that there wasn't a repeat of the event that created the Ries basin!

That would have surely ruined my day here in Karlsruhe (some 200km west of the Ries).
