Hoaglan calls this the Shuttle, but the "extreme Photoshopped" version looks more like an alien rubber duckie to me.

Obbbbbbbbbbviously, it's absolutely, without a doubt, a Martian frog lookin type of thing that's come to meet the rover.
Wonder if the rover comes with a "TAKE ME TO YOUR LEADER" sign?

Hoaglan calls this the Shuttle,

If that's a shuttle, then the ancient Martians were wither very, very, tiny creatures - or they decided to shrink everything . . . .
:-?

No, no, obviously, they were masters of the "add water to expand" technology, and once all the water went away, this is what was left.

BTW, if this is what Hoagland is actually claiming, I'll eat my hat... fortunately, I have a rather tasty hat.

Is it me, or is Hoagland sounding more and more like Ed Conrad (http://www.edconrad.com/) who is the infamous loon who posts alot to the talk.origins newsgroup who takes pieces of coal and imagines he has found human skulls and hense his motto "man as old as coal."

Unfortunately, the greeting portion of the rover program is a legacy from the Moon program (some very old code written by a rather green NASA programmer), thus when put through the Universal Translator it comes out as "TAKE ME TO YOUR LIEDERKRANZ!"
