A couple of weeks ago, I watched Deep Impact for probably the 10th time 8) . Despite some of its Bad Astronomy, its one of my favorite movies. I was wondering, what is the maximum size of an asteroid traveling at lets say 30 km/s hitting the earth that life on earth would survive? and describe the impact of a 1 mi asteroid, a 6 mi asteroid, a 50 mi asteroid, and a mars size asteroid :D. Thanks.

yep that site really helped. thanks :D but i have another question. i would think that humans could survive an impact of lets say, a 20 mile wide asteroid striking at 30 km/sec. surely it would kill millions upon millions probably even billions of people, but i would think that some part of the world may survive and start over...

Hmmm... I do hope someone isn't contemplating an asteroid attack, again.
