Yesterday we received this Christmas card (see thumbnails, Sternenengel = star angel, or angel of the stars, or angel with stars).
Have you ever seen anything alike? My wife and me, we havenīt. Itīs the most beautiful angel weīve ever seen! SMILING, see note below !
So we decided to share this beautiful Christmas gift with you

Merry Christmas !

Please note: this is the painting of a handicapped artist (I canīt translate the German word "Mundmaler", but Iīm sure kleindoofy can)

The google translator (http://translate.google.com/) says "mouth painter." I think in English we use the cumbersome term "Mouth- or Foot-Painting Artist," or something -- I used to buy Christmas and greeting cards from one of their organizations years ago.

It's a hint that someone wants a hair brush for Christmas.

But it is better than I could do.

... mouth painter ...
Yup.

But of course it doesn't mean somebody who puts paint on (people's) mouths or paints pictures of mouths, but someone who paints using their mouth, although presumably not using the mouth per se, rather a brush held between the teeth and/or lips.

Beware of semantics. ;)

... Mouth- or Foot-Painting Artist ...
Yes.

The signature card says the card is from the "MFK Mund- und Fußmalende Künstler Verlag" which means, well, "Mouth- or Foot-Painting Artist Publishing Company."

[edit:] and a few seconds of googling brought up this link to the artist on the publisher's website: Artist (http://mfk-kunst.de/kuenstler_detail.php?id=8&groupid=1). It turns out that he had a moped accident in 1982 (when he was 16) and is paralyzed from the neck down. This link (http://www.mfk-verlag.de/verlag/show.php?lang=1&oid=3457&mid=1631) shows a picture of him painting. Here's (http://www.augsburger-allgemeine.de/Home/Lokales/Schwabmuenchen/Lokalnews/Artikel,-Kunst-als-Inspiration-in-Zeiten-des-Sparzwangs-_arid,1997480_regid,2_puid,2_pageid,4505.html) a newspaper article about him and some other artists at a vernisage of their paintings from about a month ago.

Merry Christmas!

This year, the Tate Britain museum of modern art's Christmas tree is controversial.
That would not be such a surprise, unless you see the reason - it's controversial by way of not being controversial enough!

I like it. :) We always have live candles on our trees in Austria, but nobody in safety-conscious Sweden seems to have that any more.
How times have changed!
