Astronomers detect H2O2 in Martian atmosphere (http://www.spaceflightnow.com/news/n0403/01marsatmosphere/)

This may help settle some of the issues regarding the Viking life science results: scientists concluded that, even though they couldn't detect hydrogen peroxide directly, it could cause some of the results seen. Gil Levin - whose experiment showed results highly suggestive of life - disputed this and has continued to do so because there was no direct evidence of hydrogen peroxide. So this may prove to be both a good week (http://www.badastronomy.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=11625) and a bad week for him.

Any idea what produces the hydrogen peroxide on Mars?

2H2O + UV -> 2OH- + 2H+ -> H2O2 + H2

Except they'd be radicals, not ions.

Picky, picky... :oops:

Yeah, yeah... I'm limited to what I can do with a QWERTY keyboard. How would you have done it? :-?

So then, if we send astronauts there, they'll come back with fresh breath, shiny teeth and won't have to worry about small cuts and scrapes being infected? :D

Depending on the peroxide levels in the atmosphere, they might all come back blonde! :lol:

If that's the case, that could mean a fuel supply.
