For reasons known only to himself, Simon decided to sleep in the living room last night. Okay, fine, even if it did mean I couldn't spend my insomnia working on some sewing projects. But for reasons, the only place in the house we think we can plug the modem into is in the living room, and Simon unscrewed the cord, because I guess he'd decided to sleep right where it was running and thought it was uncomfortable to sleep on.

Her email said all programs are cancelled and all staff is being laid off. Including her. The pumpkin pitch is trivial, but the lives impacted are not. I just replied "Be Safe".

In the SpaceX thread, there's a report of a major condominium fire on South Padre Island, so naturally I had to go look for it on Google Maps. Then I naturally had to go look at the SpaceX sites to see if Google had updated the "satellite" imagery. They haven't, and that bugs me. I'd love to see what those places look like now instead of bare patches of dirt.
It also bugs me that I am consistently unable to spell "satellite" correctly.

I saw that post, but didn’t get the relevance - are those condos sitting next to the SpaceX site, or something?

Our big August faire posted an update that they're still planning to be on in August, but that was at least a week ago--I don't know if I trust it, given events in September have already announced that they're canceling for the year.

A couple of miles north, actually, and a quite a bit farther to drive to one place from the other.

I thawed some ground beef and put buns on the shopping list so I could make burgers.
When I got home from the store I discovered I'd grabbed hot dog buns.
We will be dining on hamburgers on English Muffins.

She peed on the rubber mat outside the box again yesterday.

Our cat decided to urinate on the furnished basement carpet. The vet recommended 1) getting the biggest litter tray we could find and 2) something called Feliway, a plug-in pheromone dispenser.
We also changed to an odor-free litter and moved the box to a slightly more private location. That combination seemed to have worked, although the pheromone ran out a couple months ago.
Unfortunately, we still get a urine odor from the carpet under certain weather conditions. The professional cleaner says we may have to replace it and seal the concrete floor beneath.

A coworker had a cat that had a serious urinary issue, and the only obvious symptom was urinating unapproved places. So if it continues, I'd recommend chatting with your vet.

As it happens, she has a vet appointment tomorrow. This has been going on for quite a while which is why we have the rubber mats in the first place. For a long time we weren't sure which cat was doing it but have recently caught her at it. She often does it not long after I clean the box.

That doesn't really surprise me. I'm guessing the litter is uncomfortable, and dirty litter even more so. So, she's holding it until the litter box is clean, and then she tries, but it's still too uncomfortable and so she gives up.

I'm not a vet, though, so my opinion's not worth the pixels it's lighting up.

I hope the vet finds something not too serious.

She uses the box fine most of the time. Yesterday I tried leaving a small urine clump in the box instead of scooping it out, thinking maybe she wanted it to smell like her. No problems yesterday so I've done that again.

And by the time I typed the above post, she'd already done it again. I asked the vet. She suggested maybe if the entrances to the two boxes weren't pointed at each other it would help, so I've done that.

    In other matter:
When I got into the car to take the kitties home from the vet, it told me the battery in the remote fob was low. That bugged me.
When I got home I looked in the owner's manual, which contains no info whatsoever about the fob battery. Because you should take it to the dealer and let them charge you $65 for $2 battery. That REALLY bugs me.
So I looked on the internet and found a video which told me what I'd have figured out anyhow. That didn't bug me.
And I bought a 4-pack of CR2032 last week so I could change the one in the kitchen scale. So it's all fixed and I'm happy again.

Another information tech folly. For several weeks now my church has put worship services on a YouTube platform as a pandemic countermeasure. This morning, a few seconds into the service it abruptly went down with a message saying YouTube had removed it because of a terms of service violation. That had me thinking of the possibility of a copyright issue. I emailed the pastor about it, and in a few minutes he replied that he had the same thing and that he fixed it by refreshing the browser. I did likewise and restored the service. It appears that some sort of a glitch not only zapped the program but generated an irrelevant message. It sort of reminded me of the early days of online browsing, back in the Windows 95 days. Occasionally I would get a message "Windows has performed an illegal operation and must shut down" or something like that. I was wondering if I might have blundered into a kiddie porn site. It turned out the message was just in-house troubleshooting jargon for the developers in their debugging work, and never should have gone public. It was glitches, nothing more.
