    Comparing stats

While we wait for the CosmoQuest team to make the Badges and Karma and other competition inducing software stuff, I thought I'd make a thread to see how I and everyone else are doing. So here are my stats:

    Total images viewed: 327
    Transients marked: 91
    Transients confirmed: 71

    What's your stats?

    Hi!
    Here are mine:

    Total images viewed: 152
    Transients marked: 48
    Transients confirmed: 30

Not the best confirmed/marked rate possible...

    Hy, these are mine:

    Total Images: 1089
    Transients marked :1170
    Transient confirmed: 245

But it's something wrong in counter system, because i didn't make all this stuff, i'm sure of ~800 total image but not these numbers above.
Has somebody the same my problem?
    Cheers Gonano.

    Hi there!

Thanks for posting your stats, my fellow Europeans. (Are there no Americans here? )

Seems I'm doing OK as I'm more or less in the middle of your stats above.

As to your question, gonano, I haven't experienced any problems with the counters except for 2 things:

    1. When it completely stopped working yesterday
    2. My feeling that the Total Contributors number is acting weird. It was at 181 for many days and now it's suddenly 203. And I never see it changing while online.

    Dear DanishDynamite,
Maybe it's a beta system to improve.
    Many thanks for your reply.
    Cheers Gonano.

I'm now trying to catch up to your stats, Gonano, and so I thought I would post an update. Here's my latest:

    Total Images: 1218
    Transients marked :234
    Transient confirmed: 196

I'm a little worried that my "confirmed" rate is quite high. Perhaps I am being too conservative and only marking the really obvious transients? I really wish I knew what is meant by the "confirmed" number.

If i understand your talk ( but sometime i have some problem on English comprehention, sorry ) ; Confirmed number indicates only that your single blob is marked by another people. Not a real Kbo.
it's serve to system for discriminating from hundred other objects.
In my opinion you point out every blob that in your judge it's ok , don't worry by the numbers....wait as me the end of project.
    Compliments for your numbers.
    Cheers Gonano.

Damn ! I have completely different stats.
Although I'm quite used to this kind of project (22000 images seen on IceHunters, 9 KBOs found), I just can't see any here on Ice Investigators ... or very few : 9 transients out of 500 images. I've only got very bad images (compared to those of IceHunters) and thought it was the case for everybody.
    And no asteroid yet !

    Dear Gonano,

Your English is not like Queen Elisabeth, but it is OK. My comments:

    1. I still don't know what "confirmed" actually means. I hope we will soon get an answer from the CosmoQuest team.
    2. Your strategy of marking everything that looks, even a little bit, like it might perhaps be a transient, could be the correct strategy. I don't know.

Personally, I only mark objects which I "feel" are definitely transients (i.e. no black center, no black pixels imbedded in the transient, etc).

    Cheers, DD

Same strategy for me. No black pixels in the blob.
Even a star that looks different from all other stars in the image, if it has dark pixels inbedded, it can't be a transient (as explained previously on IceHunters)

I've never tried IceHunters, sorry. But I think everyone here agrees that the images we are presented with are...odd. However, the trick, I suspect, is to understand how these images are made and that what you need to look for (when the Contrast button is pushed) is:

"No black pixels anywhere in the transient image, especially the core"

Anyway, that is my criteria (which may be wrong).

In my case so far 826 images and 181 transients (144 "confirmed"), after been participating in IceHunter in my opinion the pictures here so far are less bad than some of Icehunters, but remember that the images can be better or worse depending of various factors from weather conditions to processing issues. Plus, we are still in beta

Transients: 765 marked and 572 confirmed

I tend to mark anything that I think may be a transient even if im unsure so I tend to have a bit more marks than some. I think its better to mark some nothings than miss the KBO we are looking for.

    Very impressive statistics, Nasiar99!

I've got less than half as many marked images as you do, but it is interesting to see that I have about the same ratio of "confirmed transients" to "total images" as you do.

In line with your sentiment about not missing any KBOs, I've been relaxing my criteria for when something is a transient such that I now include more "borderline" blobs. I hope its the right choice.

I'm a IceHunters veteran (almost 15000 images), 8 KBO found.

    IceInvestigors stats:
    6200 images
    415 transients , 302 confirmed
    50 asteroids, 48 confirmed

Here's an update of My Ice:

    Images: 3218
    Asteroids: 43 33
    Transients: 493 382

Reading the stats from the IceHunters is a bit shocking. We've got:

econseil: 22000 images, 9 KBO found
chulej: 15000 images, 8 KBO found

That works out to about 2000 images per actual KBO! If the same ratio holds true for the Ice Investigator project, there's just 1-2 actual KBO in my 382 "confirmed" transients! That's quite sobering.

    My updated stats:

    Images: 2750
    Transients: 593 336

I'm still far behind all of you, but I've already seen more than twice the images I saw in IceHunters

    Just reached 500 confirmed transients!

OK, I'll throw mine into the mix:

    Marked confirmed
    Images: 716 N/A
    Asteroids: 3 3
    Transients: 145 132

Still puzzled by the relative lack of asteroids. (compared to what I remember from Ice Hunters)

    well,

    Images : 5462 N/A
    Asteroids : 35 , 3 comfirmed
    Transients : 1204, 1087 confirmed

is there an ETA of the new image set ?

Hopefully this week according to starstryder. But in general: as soon as possible.

    My stats now:

    Images: 8701 N/A
    Asteroids: 327 309
    Transients: 1931 1823

I've started marking asteroids again. This second image set simply abounds with them!

I've marked no asteroids because frankly I don't see them. In IceHunters, I marked 7997 objects in 18,985 images. I don't remember how many asteroids I marked, hundreds, maybe thousands, but the asteroids were plain to see. Usually three discrete (sometimes connected) blobs in a line. In all the images I have seen here I have not seen a single obvious asteroid. The representation of a "transient" in the Mapping Tools table below is an elongated blob. This leads me to resist marking elongated blobs in the images as asteroids. The representation of an asteroid below is as a line of discrete blobs just as I remember from IceHunters. I do not see any of these in the current images.

I have only just started marking asteroids. I am assuming the more elongated blobs in the new data may be asteroids, but there is nothing jumping out of the screen screaming I am an asteroid.
    Current stats:-
    Images: 11039 N/A
    Asteroids: 48 48
    Transients: 2380 2347
