I've just watched a coupled of videos of people making "floating" tables. I SO need to do one of those!
I'll start with a PVC pipe version. After I do a bit of clearing of the new workbench, which is totally obstructed with boxes and stuff.

Is this the kind of thing you’re talk about:

It’s interesting, but doesn’t seem a very practical table.

A Google image search shows some very fashionable ones, but Iím not sure Iíd want to set a full drink on one.

Trebuchet, youíre an ME, right? Are these stable in that they wonít collapse if jostled too far in any given direction?

Looks like engineering by Dr. Seuss.

Yup, that's the kind of thing I'm talking about. Not looking for any great practical value, just a little interesting project. I don't know about the stability -- maybe I'll find out! My suspicion is that you'd have to jostle it far enough that the whole thing falls over.

One of the videos I watched was for a double version -- an elongated table with a support chain and two stabilizing chains at each end. That could be practical. The guy's woodworking skills were, unfortunately inferior even to mine!

One variation is to make a lissagou figure version having one frequency for x And another for y. So two tension ligaments of different lengths. When disturbed, the table will draw Lissajou figures in the air!

That is begging to have a LED installed so you can see it do its art at night.
