Doc Martin, Series 8, again. We really like the show. The final episode last night had Sigourney Weaver as a guest star. She's an old and close friend of Selina Cadell, who plays insane pharmacist Mrs. Tishell.

Counterpart. Parallel universes, politics and spies. J.K. Simmons, Olivia Williams, Stephen Rea, Richard Schiff - which can't be a bad combination.
Towards the end of season one I had the distinct feeling that characters were doing stuff merely to position themselves for season two, but there's enough there to make me want to watch more, if only to see Simmons play two very different characters so well.

QANTAS is not the best airline I have flown on but to give them credit when their in-flight entertainment says "Classic" movies they mean it - unlike other airlines I have flown. Today I was able to sit back at 40,000 feet and watch Bogey & Bacall banter and spark with each other in "The Big Sleep". And, as we have discussed before on this site, the flirtation between Bogey & Dorothy Malone in the bookshop is always a delight to watch.

I just flew Norwegian (also at 40,000 feet) and watched "Gone with the Wind" while several others were available. No music however, I had to supply that myself.

That is good to hear. Other airlines I have flown seem to consider "Classics" to be movies about 10 years old!

    What are you watching?

“Won’t You Be My Neighbor?” The very well done documentary about Fred Rogers, producer, writer, composer and star of “Mr Rogers Neighborhood“.

I was a teen when the show premiered in 1968 but who in the world wasn’t aware of it - and him?

Watched most of it too, got a bit upset about what happened at the funeral, across the street.

Caught Alita: Battle Angel in IMAX last night.

I was pleased, they actually did a good job at adapting the comic.

Would someone who has zero experience with the comic enjoy the movie? Or is it too much fan-service?

We're ticketed to see the Apollo 11 documentary tomorrow on an IMAX screen, and I'm very much looking forward to it. (My seating companion...probably not so much but she is a good and indulgent sport about my fascination with all things space.) Almost all reviews seem to be over the moon with gushing.

Ooo, I need to see that one. I'll figure out the budget. Though we did get a babysitter in a little over a week to see Captain Marvel on our anniversary!

For three days now, mostly the news, through tears.

    What are you watching?

Just got back from watching Apollo 11 and it was excellent. The launch sequence alone is worth the price of admission.

I saw footage I had never seen before, even from events that had been well-recorded such as closeups of the launch and the engines.

No narration. Just the voices of the astronauts, flight controllers, flight announcer and a little bit of Walter Cronkite.

A minor nit: they include the famous footage from Apollo 4 that shows the stage separations and the ignition of the S-IVB. AFAIK only *Apollo 4 had that film. But it’s a tiny nit.

    Very well done.

    *ETA and AS-202.
ETA2: Well, after some further reading apparently Todd Douglas Miller pulled footage from other archives to match up to the events in Apollo 11 and apparently the information that he did so is buried in the credits somewhere. And he has been very upfront about it in interviews as well.So not every second of film is from the Apollo 11 flight but it's still at 90% or so.

Since I've been stitching so many quotes from it lately, I pulled out Sunday in the Park With George for a rewatch yesterday. Man, I love that show. "Finishing the Hat" still gets to me every time.

Just saw the David Tennant Dr Who die. (Sorry for the spoiler).

Finding it slightly frustrating that the background music is so loud I miss a fair bit of the dialogue. I suppose I could put the subtitles on (Netflix) but reading them does make my eyes hurt, flicking back and forth between the words and the visuals.

Netflix has been warning that this series will become unavailable after March 30th - hopefully they don't mean ALL of their Dr Who.

Also, Arrested Development continues to make me laugh.

TBA, you appear to have omitted a link. Perhaps it was this? If not, pzkpfw should watch it anyhow! Take a close look at the "Confidential" group.

Meanwhile, we watched Free Solo the other night. I felt sorry for his girlfriend.

That reminds me of this short music video called "Nice Shoes" which is absolutely loaded with science fiction references, many of them obvious (including a great Tom Baker lookalike), but there are also a lot of "blink and you'll miss them" references (added stuff on the sides, various insignia, etc.). It's short (under four minutes). I'll give a mild NSFW warning for couple scenes, but it's PG. I laughed out loud at the ending.
