When I right-clicked on the link and opend it in a new page
(as I commonly do), there was no text in the edit box. But
when I left-clicked so as to reply from the Quick Reply box on
the same page (as I did with this reply), the text showed up.

I haven't experienced that problem until now.
I get nothing when I try to edit my own post here. [Go Advanced] won't bring it in either.

I just tried to reply with quote to NEOWatcher's post #2468
in the Fukushima thread, as he linked above, and got the text
in both the Quick Reply box on the same page (left click) and
the reply box on a new page (right click). Very sneaky bug!

I tried again, same thing. The post I tried to reply to
    is by Solfe.

It's because of the in his post. If I remove it, it works fine. All other unquoteable / uneditable posts I've found are similar. I'll see if there's something to fix this, but for now try not to use special characters if you suspect someone might want to quote you.

Looks like it's based around us having a slightly incompatible version of php with the forum. I'll upgrade things tonight and all quoting should work fine.

This is because the forum logo has the a="top" code and the links that take you to the top take the "#top" suffix. This should be easily fixed by having a dummy a="top" at or above the navigation bar at the real top of the page, since if i remember correctly a #top suffix on the url takes you to the first occurrence of an a="top", so adding an extra dummy one should fix it.
Done. Thanks for the help! You're really close though. #top will find the first thing with name="top".

I said in post #494 that there are two more issues I'd asked
about before but got no reply on, that I'm not sure made your
list of things to be fixed, but I didn't repeat what they are.
Well .... it appears that you've fixed one of them!

I just did a test of the Post Reporting. It seems better. I timed it and it took 25 seconds from when I hit submit till it returned me to my original thread. Not as fast as it once seemed to be, but better than the infinite time it seemed to have been taking.

Thanks. It's still some pixels off though, presumably because you've added the name="top" to the cosmoquest hyperlink (the top of the hyperlink is a few pixels below the top of the navbar). Would adding the name="top" to the outer div work? (It's been a long time since i've done any html, it's getting a bit rusty ).

ETA: i've just tested it locally, apparently adding a name="top" to a div (or ul or li) doesn't work. Oh well, close enough

ETA2: however, adding a dummy <a name="top"> before the first div does work.

I'm sure I'm much rustier than you, but I see that the div
already has an id, and I think a tag can only have either a
name or an id, not both, since they serve the same function.
It looks like Cory added the name="top" to the hyperlink
because it was the first already-existing tag without an id.
I'd think a new tag could be added, but that's probably more
complicated now than it was back in the days of HTML 3.2.

Everything's been upgraded now. I think quoting/editing/etc has been fixed. Please let me know if that's not the case.

I used an existing link simply because it was easy to do. I didn't notice it was off by the 2 or 3 pixels at the top, but I'd say it's good enough now.

    Will do.
What was the fix/problem? PHP version incompatibility?

There seems to be something amiss right now with the "front pages".
The first page of the Forum does not show the last posts that were put in the last posted-in threads.
The first page of each sub forum ditto.

What's the other one? And report post is still slow, right? Trying to catch up after nasty, nasty con-crud.

The problem that you apparently have fixed is that pages
now refresh themselves automatically each time I go to
them while I'm online. That is how they used to work until
several months ago, when I started having to hit the refresh
button for every page that I had previously visited. I don't
know what the difference is, but the automatic refresh is
much faster than the manual one.

The other problem I alluded to is currently being studied.
It is a higher-level sort of problem, not primarily technical.
I'll get back to you on it when I have what you need...

I *might* have fixed the problem, but if not refreshing your cache will fix it. It's now auto-clearing that page's cache when you load it, but I can't really test if I did it right.

I just retested this, and got about the same result as I reported in post 518 - it is better than it was (which was approaching infinity to return to the thread); it is now about 25 seconds, but it used to be like 5 or 10 seconds (a guess from memory, not measured).

I have a question for Cory and the Build Team.

After the latest changes, I now see buttons at the bottom of posts for "Promote to Article" and "Blog this Post". I guess I could just push them and see what happens, but maybe you could explain what these do. And are these things that the entire membership sees, or only Admins/mods/etc.?

I also wanted to publicly thank Cory for his recent work and for keeping everyone informed.

I think the "promote to article" is for Admins and Mods. We all have a blog associated with this Forum and that button lets you easily blog a post if you want. I've not used the blog here (I forgot we had it), but I wonder if it's worth it?

I'd have to guess it's a previously unimplemented (by BAUT/CQ) feature of the board software that got turned on by accident when Cory was doing some of the other fixes.

ETA: Or maybe not. I see there's also a "Blogs" button at the top of the screen and access to your blog from your user page. I even made an entry!

I see blog rules in our future...

The self hosted version of Wordpress will pull in information from your vbulletin visits, so I am not entirely surprised that the board would have the option.

edit - correction. It looks like we all have a blog space here. It doesn't export at all. My college email system has the same sort of system. People use it once and forget about it. I used it to remind myself of homework assignments.

After an exchange with Cory, I've decided to create a dedicated thread to report problems to the Build Team (LINK), and close this thread. There will always be something new to fix, so we don't need to keep rehashing it as a "foulup".

If anyone has a reason to reopen this thread, please Report this post. Otherwise, please report new or on-going problems in the linked thread.
