I guess it just possibly may be tweaking happening behind the scenes to fix our problems.
It could also be totally random and we're in an experiment like the one that showed how pigeons can also develop superstitions.

As always, it would be nice if the build team would drop us a note as well.

No... the site is wonky enough as it is, lets not suggest that they start dropping things.

Sundays require sacred performance from forums, if you know what I mean. It's the big day! We've been skipping Mass for some weeks now lately, it seems. It diminishes one's fervor, and invites the heresy of worshiping elsewhere. Site Admins, time to don the purple robes and bless that server once and for all!

    My frank n' sense.

I think this might be relevant, even though it's from another thread.

I'm sorry, but would you explain exactly what is funny about that? If meant seriously, I think you just nipped my heels overmuch this time around. Might I remind you there is an ignore posts by author function you can use, for obvious reasons?

I'll repeat George Carlin's wise advise... everyone calm down. A little humor in this tread is fine, gosh knows I need it for dealing with this. But let's be careful of what we accuse other members of doing, or giving unsolicited advice.

35 seconds to pull up a page.
Why would anyone want to hang out here with that sort of wait?

It must have worked. It's responding a lot faster (at least right now).

I guess the button really worked...

Yes, it does seem better and I have no clue as to why, which I don't find reassuring. If I hear anything from the Build Team, I'll try to let people know.

Since I have always had my browser set to not automatically
refresh pages if they are in the cache, and "Meta refresh" was
apparently removed from all forum web pages several months
ago, I have to hit the refresh button, and with my dial-up
connection that always takes more than 35 seconds. The
Meta refresh was considerably faster for me even if the time
it takes me to manually click the button is discounted. I'd
prefer to go back to having Meta refresh.

Maybe we should demand a sacrifice. I think a shrubbery would be very nice.

Now what? Is this something new, or something I just noticed?

In the banner, where the "welcome" message is with the notifications/myprofile/etc links has a box of grey text underneath it starting with "Cosmoquest, your place to learn and do science"
A small corner of that box is beneath the logo too.

Ok, now it's wrapping and has it's own links.

Beware, the forum is changing before our eyes.

ETA: Ha, I clicked on the citizen science, and that page is even more messed up than this page.

And now a google search bar.

Are changes being developed on the live system? Or is the migration to the live system piecemeal (as apposed to a code "push")?

OK, new stuff! But can I post a picture?

    Testing....Apparently not.

Wouldn't it be a good idea to fix what's broken before adding new stuff?

On the plus side, the banner jumping on menu roll-over has been fixed. You take what you can get, I guess??

When I scroll down, the far left scrolls at a different rate than the rest of the page. They settle in the same place when I stop scrolling, but it's still weird.

This may be a browser specific issue rather than a server problem.

Holy Batman, Batman! There is a function search box on the upper right side of the screen. It is ugly as sin, but it actually works, and works for all of my examples that the old search box didn't.

I haven't tried it yet, but I lament that the actual search box doesn't work and we still have to use google as a replacement. If at first you don't succeed, jury-rig a work around. What's next, when posting is slow, try sending in a comment using Carrier Pigeon? :P

In other words, it seems to be an intermittent problem.

The best I can come up with, is that the problem 'Preview Post' operation is random over the period of constructing the post which could be ~30 mins etc), and it seems to happen following a slight delay (~1 or 2 secs?), when compared with the responsiveness of prior 'Preview Post' operations, (ie: leading up to the faulty one).

Even though a given post gets nuked, one can immediately go to another thread and open a reply, and 'Preview Post' then works fine again. (Could be a server or server networking or traffic dependent connnectivity problem??)
This problem still exists ... and its occurence is still unpredictable .. (and annoying).

In this case it's the authors of vBulletin who should be blamed, not our admins.
Remember, they didn't actually program the software.

Using Google for searching has been the recommended solution since we were on phpBB because forum software is not very good at searching once the post count gets large.

Friday afternoon, for the first time, I couldn't access your site from my office. Their McAfee AV gave it a "red" rating, which I guess is bad. Update: As of Monday, McAfee still doesn't like the site.

Update, August 8: We had been warned of recent false positives, but as of today I got in, so all is well.
