Part of the entertainment with TV when I was young was predicting at what point my dad would lose it when he was trying to get the reception just right for hockey or football games. There's a fine art to making and adjusting foil bunny ears. Stray air currents could upset the delicate balance so we learned to be very still during sporting events.

I remember those times. I'd gotten rather used to the "instant ON" of the solid state TV sets, but I note that the new high-definition models take several seconds to decipher the signal and show you something when you turn 'em on or change the channel. Deja vu all over again!
