I can remember Bing Crosby singing about
visiting the UK by ship!
Really brings it home remembering that.

I'm so old I remember when Vanna White used to turn letters by hand.
...when Jay Leno was Johnny Carson.
...when TV had 2 dials, one for UHF and one for VHF. And you had to wait for the house antenna to turn to get good reception. Ca-click! Ca-click!
...or put foil on "bunny ears".
...when you had to watch whatever was on, when it was on.
...when phones had dials, cords, and sat on desks or hung on walls.
...when "transistorized" meant really, really small electronics.

I'm so old that I remember that vertical hold wasn't a hair product, a cloud was something in the sky--and an application was something you gave your boss.
I remember when fuel was sugar cubes and apples for your horse!

...when the first few minutes after getting in the car were usually spent twiddling with the radio dials, looking for a station.
When you had to wait for the TV to "warm up" before the picture came on.

The last time I flew I didn't have to show ID. My ticket alone got me on the plane.
I recall a time when "The Space Age" was not a historical reference.

I remember when potato chips were greasy and salty and delicious.
I can remember black and white TV and lot of the other stuff that Cleve talks about.
Part of the entertainment with TV when I was young was predicting at what point my dad would lose it when he was trying to get the reception just right for hockey or football games. There's a fine art to making and adjusting foil bunny ears. Stray air currents could upset the delicate balance so we learned to be very still during sporting events.![]()
Remember when dirt was still new and shiny?
Depending on whom you ask, everything is relative.
I remember when computers were something I only occasionally heard about, had never seen, and were used only by experts.
...when "flower children" walked the Earth.
...Bell bottoms or gold jumpsuits were the height of fashion.
...when Disco was a place people went, not a style of music.
...when roller skates had 4 wheels.
...when bicycles where cheap transportation, and jeans and sneakers were cheap clothing.
...when Volkswagen Beetles were cheap transportation.
...Schoolhouse Rock.
...Fat Albert was the height of animation.
I remember standing in line for the first Star Wars the day it came out.

I don't remember the ice box but I remember my mother calling the refrigerator an ice box.
I remember when
... 512 KB EDO RAM on the 286 gave you bragging rights.
... To have the background switch from blue to green in your monochrome 15" monitor was cool.
... To be able to plot a curve in Wordstar made you a nerd.
... Lotus123 would take about 10 minutes to load a 150 KB file.
... You could go to the computer shop to ogle at the mouse on display.
... Nyet was the most challenging game on the planet. Ever.
I remember before "nerd" meant what it did today, when it was just a generic insult used by The Fonz.
When "geek" meant a carnival performer.

I remember being impressed by the 4 MB of memory that my 486 computer had when I realized it was a thousand times as much as the TRS-80 basic system which came with 4K.
My family had a party line back in the 1950's.
Slide rule was a required college course for all engineers. I still have my HP 50 instruction key-stroke programmable calculator (rpn) and it still works!
Depending on whom you ask, everything is relative.
Arcades had pinball machines, not video games.

I remember those times. I'd gotten rather used to the "instant ON" of the solid state TV sets, but I note that the new high-definition models take several seconds to decipher the signal and show you something when you turn 'em on or change the channel. Deja vu all over again!
I bought a slide rule to play with even though I never needed one. I found that a laminated plastic one doesn't stay accurate after being dropped a few times.
I can remember fondly.
Mood rings,
Bell bottom pants
Pet rocks
High heels for men(disco era)
A time when male rock stars almost never wore makeup
When mustang bikes were brand new

I remember doctors making house calls.
My earliest memory of minimum wage was $1.25 per hour. I remember first class postage costing 4¢. A candy bar cost 5¢.
I remember Lady Diana Spencer being introduced to the world.
I remember Horror before Clive Barker (Stephen King the "main man").
I remember news of Elvis Presley's death.
I remember a world without Star Wars (...so unimaginable now!...).
I remember buying comic books at the corner drugstore.
I remember when a Slinky was the coolest toy ever.
I remember when gas station lines suddenly got very long for a while because gasoline costs rose to 40 cents a gallon.

Albert Einstein and Niels Bohr were still alive when I was born. Sputnik had not yet been launched. The hydrogen bomb had not yet been invented.
