First human outpost near the Moon

As they say there is no smoke without a fire. So if this news has some elements of truth in it, it can only be positive to human space exploration in BEO.

After several years of behind-the-scene negotiations, the partners in the International Space Station, ISS, project are quietly putting the finishing touches on a grand plan to extend human presence beyond the Earth's orbit for the first time since 1972 and to establish a pioneering long-term outpost in the vicinity of the Moon. If this effort manages to overcome all the financial, political and technical hurdles, it might lead to even more ambitious human undertakings in deep space, including a return to the Moon, visits to asteroids and, ultimately, an expedition to Mars! This page is designed to serve as a starting point for our exclusive unofficial coverage and visualization of the project in the coming years.

So the plan for the 2030s is to go with the current international partners of the ISS to Mars. In the process keep out of the international team the countries (we are looking at the early 3030s) with the biggest economy and the 3rd biggest economy in the world. Realistic 😕

Holy cake, we can predict what countries will have the biggest economies more than a thousand years from now? ;-)

NASA is seriously studying a cislunar human outpost.

    http://spacenews.com/nasa-moving-ahe...human-outpost/

"Despite uncertainty about potential policy changes, NASA is pressing ahead with plans for a cislunar “gateway” outpost for future human missions, with decisions about how to develop it expected in the coming months.

Speaking at the American Astronautical Society’s Goddard Memorial Symposium here March 8, Bill Gerstenmaier, NASA associate administrator for human exploration and operations, said he was studying concepts for launching the first elements of the proposed outpost as secondary payloads on early flights of the Space Launch System."
