Cool Northern Lights - Sunday Night (July 16-17)

Northern Lights (Aurora Borealis) may glow across the northern horizon on Sunday night (July 16-17) for northern hemisphere observers as far south as Chicago. This would be due to a solar flare that erupted from a sunspot on Thursday-Friday sending charged particles toward Earth. The particles would be directed toward the northern polar region by the Earth’s magnetic field, resulting in a colorful dance display when interacting with air molecules.

Photos and descriptions of the phenomenon would be welcome additions to this thread.

We still have 18+ hours of daylight right now so seeing is great. But if they do make a showing...and I'm up...I'll try for a few shots.

I was gonna head out of The Big Smoke for a gander, but it was overcast all night.

It was cloudy most of the day but cleared to broken skies but it was still too light out when I went to bed.

Would've been great to see. Alas...
