Los Angeles can download the new earthquake-warning app today, I think. Has anyone here tried to download this?
Ooops: here's the link. Try it.

Not a response, but just FYI, in Japan the government has a warning system like that, so that when an earthquake is about to happen it sends out a signal that makes smartphones ring with a sort of "whoop, whoop" sound. It can be somewhat disconcerting when suddenly everybody's smartphone in the office starts whooping. There are definitely false alarms, though, usually (I think) triggered by a defective seismometer somewhere.
As above, so below
I signed up for beta access. Haven't gotten anything yet.

Somewhat relevant XKCD comic.
The greatest journey of all time, for all to see
Every mission makes our dreams reality
And our destiny begins with you and me
Through all space and time, the achievement of mankind
As we sail the sea of discovery, on heroes’ wings we fly!
Check your Google app store or whatever to look for this. I apparently cannot get it in South Carolina, so good luck to you. Supposed to give warning when a quake hits. Anyone have anything else on this?

Curious to see when, if successful, this app goes continental. South Carolina gets earthquakes, too, but the New Madrid fault will be the killer.
