Mods and admins were aware of things going wrong, but we were unable to let you know that there was a site issue. And you may already have read that the main site is having its own troubles of non-technical nature. Not sure yet who fixed what, and how.

What was strangest was that I realized I don't have any other way to contact the people here to ask someone what the issue might be, or when things might be back up, or anything else.

I joined the CQ Discord server hoping to find news about the forum's status, there wasn't any, but at least I'm in another nice community now.

During the outage I was always able to open the main forum page, and I clicked on the Contact Us link in the lower right. That generated an email message to the mods in which I described the problem. One of the mods replied soon, so I knew we were communicating.

I'm not a member of Apollo Hoax or the skeptics board that used to be part of JREF, but some of our members are. I spotted postings about the CQ forum in both places.
I figure if things ever really go sour, I can subscribe to one of those boards.

We had a similar problem at Orion's Arm less than a month ago. We kept in touch via Facebook and Discord.
It does seem that these attacks are either getting more frequent, or more random, or both.

I didn't either, because I hate Facebook. Which, in the past couple of days, has been revealed as INTENTIONALLY having encouraged children to use their parents' credit cards to spend ridiculous amounts of money on games.
That said, I think I'll send some PM's to give my email to some members here, because they are friends I've never met, or may have met, and I don't want to lose contact if/when the forum dies forever.
Then there's Phil Plait, who abandoned us. Shame on you, Phil. We need a new banner without him. Not that Astronomy Today is much better; basically just using us as clickbait.

There was an interesting experience I had when I did just that. I was gone for a while and came back to a thread entitled, "What happened to George?" Wow! But it turned out to be about Washington on the dollar bill.
