    Web beacons

The wikipedia article on web beacons is interesting: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Web_beacon

Does any software that automatically interprets HTML enable web beacons to function? My interpretation of the article is that web beacons need have no features that distinguish them from other uses of HTML.

Any feature that generates a request to the server can be considered a "beacon". A whole bunch of server variables get set during a request-response exchange between client and server, all of which are available for inspection at the server end by the programmer.

Coincidentally, this exact conversation just came up on physicsforums, Steven .
