    C/2019 q4

    What affect is this having on the astronomy community? What resources will be used to study it?

    Apparently it's our newest interstellar visitor...maybe.

    C/2019 Q4 (Borisov) (internal name gb00234) is an interstellar comet with a heliocentric orbital eccentricity of ~3 and is not bound to the Sun.[4][1] The hyperbolic excess velocity ({\displaystyle v_{\infty }}v_{\infty }) of ~30 km/s is an important indicator that it is interstellar[5][6] as a {\displaystyle v_{\infty }}v_{\infty } under 3 km/s can be explained by perturbations.

    <snip>

    With a 12-day observation arc, a best-fit for the hyperbolic orbit has an eccentricity of about 3.4, with perihelion at 2.0 au around 7 December 2019.[2] Using 151 observations, JPL's Scout gives an eccentricity range of 2.9–4.5.[3]

    Being discussed in this thread in Astronomy. I'm going to close this one, so we don't have two parallel discussions. If there is a reason to reopen this thread, Report my post.
