Opal Coatings for Daytime Radiative Coolling

The atmosphere has a window for radiative cooling, which in New England, Canada, the Rockies, and other mountain ranges, produces those big temperature drops in the fall, under dry Canadian air masses, causing sharp frosts and nice foliage coloration in our deciduous forests. In the worlds' deserts, the same effect makes you want to carry a blanket for your sleeping bag when hiking there. But, that's nightime radiative cooling. These guys have tooted daytime radiative cooling using a photonic coating of overlooked opals, which radiate effectively in the atmosphere's window. Cool indeed. SEE:https://arxiv.org/abs/1910.11661
