First of all no proof of a parallel Universe exits that a portal could be linked.

So let’s start smashing particles together and see what happens

4. The New York Post is infamous for headlines like “Headless Body in Topless Bar”, I would not expect much from them reporting on science.

5. The article, copied from an alleged newspaper in the UK which should carry the label "for entertainment purposes only", is complete garbage. There is no "portal", there is no "parallel universe". The experiment is designed to look for neutron oscillations (neutrons converting back and forth with "mirror matter" particles, a little after the fashion that neutrinos oscillate between different "flavours"). So the "parallel universe" is just a potential new domain of particle physics, consisting of particles that don't interact much with the "conventional" particles we know about. It might have relevance to the nature of dark matter, it might address an inconsistency in the observed rate of neutron decay.

Basic message: Don't get your science news from red-top tabloids.

Science has been smashing atoms together in particle accelerators since they were built and yet no portal has been discovered to a parallel Universe. This is science fiction at best.

7. A non-tabloid article about the investigator.

Abstract from a paper about what she's actually doing:
Abstract
The theory of mirror matter predicts a hidden sector made up of a copy of the Standard Model particles and interactions but with opposite parity. If mirror matter interacts with ordinary matter, there could be experimentally accessible implications in the form of neutral particle oscillations. Direct searches for neutron oscillations into mirror neutrons in a controlled magnetic field have previously been performed using ultracold neutrons in storage/disappearance measurements, with some inconclusive results consistent with oscillation times of $\tau\sim$10 s. Here we describe a proposed disappearance and regeneration experiment in which the neutron oscillates to and from a mirror neutron state. An experiment performed using the existing General Purpose-Small Angle Neutron Scattering instrument at the High Flux Isotope Reactor at Oak Ridge National Laboratory could have the sensitivity to exclude up to $\tau<$15 s in 1 week of beamtime and at low cost.

So let’s start smashing particles together and see what happens
Nature smashes particles together at much higher energies than we have managed. If there was something all that dangerous involved, we wouldn’t exist.

9. In the future, please do not post blind links. A one or two sentence explanation of the link, or a short quote from the article, would be appreciated.

Someone pointed this out to me once. We get cosmic rays smashing into our atmo all the time that have higher energy than anything we can produce in an accelerator.
We're still here.
