No launch has taken place yet this year but China has stated it will launch 50 rockets in 2020.

hina's space industry is poised for an extremely busy year, with about 50 launch missions likely to take place in 2020, according to major contractors and space industry sources.

China Aerospace Science and Technology Corp, the country's leading space contractor, said in a statement on Thursday that it will strive to carry out more than 40 launch missions to serve national space programs, such as the completion of the Beidou Navigation Satellite System, and meet demand from commercial satellite operators.

Sources at the State-owned space giant who wished to remain anonymous said the 40-odd planned missions will be carried out by the conglomerate's Long March-series carrier rockets, the nation's backbone rocket fleet, and do not include those to be made by the company's newly developed Smart Dragon solid-propellant rockets.

This means the actual number of launches by the company in 2020 will be even bigger.

The United States should also see a surge of growth. You are misreading it. This is the 2nd launch this month worldwide (after SpaceX) as well as the 2nd launch for the year.

Arianespace is poised to launch up to 22 missions this year, a number that would nearly double the company’s record.

Half of the European launch provider’s 2020 manifest is comprised of OneWeb launches — 10 Soyuz missions and the inaugural launch of the Ariane 62 rocket.

Arianespace also has two launches scheduled for its smallest rocket, Vega, and two for the larger next-generation Vega C, Stéphane Israël, Arianespace’s chief executive, said in a Jan. 7 interview.

“Today we are are ready for a maximum record of launches,” Israël said.

China launched another satellite for its Jilin-1 remote sensing constellation orbiting the Kuanfu-1 (Wideband-1) satellite from the Taiyuan Satellite Launch Center on January 15. The launch took place at around 02:53 UTC from the LC9 launch complex using the Long March-2D (Y58) rocket.

Together with Jilin-1 Kuanfu-1, the first mission from Taiyuan in 2020 orbited two new satellites for the Argentinian Aleph-1 constellation and the Chinese micro-satellite Renmin-1, although post launch information shows that was apparently replaced by Tianqi-4.

China's most powerful low-orbiting communication satellite, also the biggest spacecraft ever built by a private Chinese company, was launched on Thursday morning in Northwest China.

The GalaxySpace 1, designed and built by the Beijing-based startup GalaxySpace, has also been widely considered the country's first 5G-capable satellite that features a very strong capability in data transmission.

The 200-kilogram satellite was lifted at 11:02 am atop a Kuaizhou 1A solid-propellant carrier rocket from the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center in the Gobi Desert, according to a statement from GalaxySpace.

It has a transmission capacity of 10 Gigabits per second and uses multiple bands such as Q/V and Ka, the company said.

China has been using all-out efforts to boost and promote the 5G communication technology, regarding it as one of the major driving forces for future social and economic development.

A Northrop Grumman Antares 230+ lifted off from the Mid-Atlantic Regional Spaceport (MARS) on Wallops Island, Virginia on Saturday after upper level winds called off a Friday attempt. The rocket carried the automated Cygnus spacecraft on its 13th contracted resupply mission to the International Space Station (ISS). Its original launch date was scrubbed due to a ground system issue and then had to wait for acceptable weather.

Launching from Wallops Pad 0A at 3:43 PM EST (20:43 PM UTC), the Cygnus NG-13 spacecraft was carried into orbit, ahead of an approximately two-day rendezvous with the ISS, where it will then be berthed to the ISS to resupply the three-person crew of Expedition 62.

Taking precautions with the coronavirus outbreak in all orbital and space launch centers, China returned to its launch activities after the Chinese New Year festivities with a new launch from the Xichang Satellite Launch Center.

This was the first use of a Long March-2D (Chang Zheng-2D) launch vehicle from Xichang. The mission orbited four satellites that will be used to carry out inter-satellite link networking and new ground observation technology tests in orbit.
