Nice, I’ve been wanting to see that column in the United States row tick up for a long time. And of course it really represents something new: The location is the US, but it is really more of a private launch (though still with government crew). I’ve been waiting to see private launches since I was a kid. I am happy to see it, but sad it has taken so long.

SpaceX has launched their ninth launch of operational Starlink satellites, along with two satellites for BlackSky’s Earth observation constellation, on Friday, August 7 (1:12am EDT / 05:12 UTC). The weather forecast issued by the 45th Space Wing the morning before launch showed a 70% chance of favorable weather at the scheduled time, with the primary concerns being the thick cloud layer and cumulus cloud rules.

The 3rd launch in August as well as the 61st launch this year is by ESA.

An Ariane 5 rocket delivered a robotic space tug and a pair of commercial communications satellites into orbit Saturday following a fiery blastoff from French Guiana, debuting new upgrades in Arianespace’s first mission since temporarily suspending launch operations earlier this year due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The European Ariane 5 rocket and its three U.S.-built payloads took off from the ELA-3 launch zone at the Guiana Space Center at 6:04 p.m. EDT (2204 GMT; 7:04 p.m. French Guiana time). Riding 2.9 million pounds of thrust from its twin solid rocket boosters and hydrogen-fed core stage engine, the Ariane 5 bolted through cloud layers and arced toward the east from the jungle spaceport on the northeastern shore of South America.
