    mercuric oxide opthalmic

Years ago, a common over the counter medication for the eye in the USA was yellow mercuric oxide ointment. Is that still sold over-the-counter under a different name? - or was it proven ineffective or hazardous?

I remember that as "golden eye ointment", effective but banned as poisonous. It is not sold today in UK over the counter.

Propamidine isetionate. Which has been marketed as "Golden Eye" drops in the UK since the 1990s, among other trade names.
