    Lava tubes on the Moon and Mars may be huge, and very useful

    The author, Francesca Sauro, et al, suggests lava tubes may be 100 times larger, due to lower gravitational forces on Mars and the moon. Since they aid in a more even temperature, and radiation, meteorite shielding, the "roof holes" seen in orbiter images are interesting. SEE:

    It's an interesting field for research. Beneath the surface may contain water ice and volatile chemicals that can be used as fuel. A thick layer of rock provides protection from sunlight, and skylights provide easy, quick access to the surface.
