The Star Shade would supposedly function with existing telescopes, like the James Webb. If it were deployed with the James Webb, then the telescope would sit at the L2 Lagrange point, using fuel for stationkeeping and gyroscopes to slew on to new targets. The Star Shade would be positioned tens of thousands of kilometres away, and would use fuel to fly to a new position each time the telescope changed target. I guess how long it would take and how much fuel it would use would depend on the final design of the Star Shade, and how far apart successive telescopic targets were.
