That's cool.
There's the classic idea/joke of throwing the guard dog a steak so you can break in. I assume you'd throw these guys a battery.![]()
But the hydraulic fluid is even worse on the grass...
Can you ride one? I guess so!

When we realize that patterns don't exist in the universe, they are a template that we hold to the universe to make sense of it, it all makes a lot more sense.

I hate the metallic barking.

Similar robotic dogs were starring in the recent British TV series War of The Worlds which is now on hiatus due to Covid-19. These little monsters roamed the countryside and towns mopping up the few remaining humans who weren't eliminated in the first wave of attacks.

Also something similar in the Black Mirror episode “Metalhead.” A gory and violent (possibly NSFW) scene below:

I think it boils down to the moving headless dog shape looking wrong and perhaps sinister, at least until you get used to it, so it is great for villain scenes. I remember a bit of an uneasy reaction (mixed with fascination that the machine could walk so well) when seeing a video of one of the early Boston Dynamics four footed robots.

Those are the Boston Dynamics SPOT model. They can be equipped with sensors, a manipulator arm, cameras, etc. SpaceX uses them at Boca Chica to check out the pad area after tests & accidents before humans enter.
They have several large robots, including humanoid.

The relationship between Ghost Robotics (who developed the robots mentioned in the OP) and Boston Dynamics (Spot) is not as clear as I thought. If they are outright competitors, I can't see how there hasn't been some sort of design patent dispute given how similar the "dog" models look and work.
