Order of Kilopi
There was a press release from the US Space Force stating that their personnel would henceforth be referred to as Guardians. The statement closed with the phrase, Semper Supra (Always Above, though I note it could also be translated as Always High).
If that's what actually made it through the selection process, what were the terms that failed? I welcome your suggestions.

The process involved suggestions from within the DoD and public contributions. No doubt a long list, and I'd bet "Troopers" and "Mobile Infantry" were in there.

Heck, China’s looks like a combination Federation/Star Fleet logo. You could make an in universe argument that the Star Fleet logo started by combining the space related logos used by various Earth countries. In the real world, you have to wonder if Star Trek influenced the logos (even if no one wants to admit it).
As for a name, how about the Flash Bucks? Or the Gil Busters?

They should go to the Guardian Fleet Academy for training at their main base, named Star Base One, located near Atlanta, reached through a really impressive gate. Important note: They should never name a space station “Babylon” unless they want to lose four of them.

Mark Hamill says the Star Trek, Star Wars and the Guardians of the Galaxy folks should jointly sue them for infringement since “Guardians” using the “Force” are wearing the Trek logo. Meh, it doesn’t really work and even in the US it isn’t that easy to successfully sue someone, but it seemed mildly amusing.
