Like some other families of asteroids, the Eunomia family was formed during the destruction of the parent asteroid as a result of the collision of another large asteroid with it. Asteroid (15) Eunomia is located near the center of mass of the family; about 70-75% of the parent body's matter is concentrated in it. It is the largest member of its family, as well as the largest "rock" asteroid of spectral class S among all the main belt asteroids. Eunomia has a highly elongated shape with a diameter along the longitudinal axis of 300 km and an average diameter of 250 km. And the average diameter of the parent body before its destruction could be about 280 km
