China’s Zhurong rover has approached and imaged the parachute and backshell which helped the vehicle land safely on Mars.

The 240-kilogram solar-powered Zhurong captured the image of the discarded items on July 12 Beijing time at a distance of 30 meters away.

"China's Mars rover travels over 509 meters on red planet"

    http://www.xinhuanet.com/english/202...1310068136.htm

China's Mars rover Zhurong has traveled more than 509 meters on the surface of the red planet as of 11 p.m. Saturday, according to the Lunar Exploration and Space Program Center of the China National Space Administration.

The rover will soon arrive at the second sand dune on its journey on the red planet. It will carry out a detailed survey of the dune and surrounding environment, said the administration.

As of Saturday, Zhurong has been operating on the surface of Mars for 63 Martian days. A Martian day is approximately 40 minutes longer than a day on Earth.

Two bits of information from Zhurong.

1st is the first anniversary of the launch of the country's first interplanetary expedition

    and

2nd is it has traveled 585 meters on the surface of the red planet.

China's Zhurong Mars rover finished exploring a sand dune on the red planet on the first anniversary of the launch of the country's first interplanetary expedition, the China National Space Administration said on Friday.

The robot headed toward the dune earlier this week and began to take photographs, then activated onboard scientific equipment to survey the dune and its surroundings, the administration said in a statement.

China's Mars rover Zhurong has traveled 585 meters on the surface of the red planet as of Friday, according to the Lunar Exploration and Space Program Center of the China National Space Administration.

On Friday, the Mars orbiter marked its first anniversary of working in orbit about 378 million km away from Earth. The delay of its one-way communication was around 21 minutes, said the center.

Both the rover and orbiter are working in normal conditions, with their subsystems operating normally.

"China's Zhurong rover reaches complex terrain on Mars"

    http://www.chinadaily.com.cn/a/20210...1bd6658f7.html

China's Mars rover Zhurong has reached an area with complex terrain, according to the Lunar Exploration and Space Program Center of the China National Space Administration.

After exploring a second dune, Zhurong moved southward and arrived at the area full of rocks, impact craters and dunes, said the administration.

The ground control will complete the visual positioning and path planning based on the daily navigation terrain images taken by the rover, and control Zhurong to traverse the area safely.

"China's Zhurong Mars rover scopes out dunes on journey south"

    https://www.space.com/china-mars-rov...-studies-dunes

China's Zhurong rover has quietly clocked up 1,900 feet (585 meters) of driving on Mars and has been using its science instruments to check out nearby geologic features in Utopia Planitia.

Zhurong's latest exploits have seen it analyze dunes amid the local rocky Martian terrain and visit the backshell and parachute that helped the rover land safely on the Red Planet.

"China's Mars rover accomplishes planned exploration tasks"

    http://www.xinhuanet.com/english/202...1310132968.htm

China's Mars rover Zhurong has accomplished its exploration and detection tasks as planned, according to the China National Space Administration (CNSA) on Tuesday.

As of Aug. 15, 2021, Zhurong had worked on the surface of Mars for 90 Martian days, or about 92 days on Earth, with all scientific payloads having started to work on detection tasks, said the administration.

The rover has traveled 889 meters as of Aug. 15, and its scientific payloads have collected about 10 Gb of raw data. Now the rover runs stably and operates in good condition with sufficient energy.

"Mars mission to pause for about 50 days"

    http://www.ecns.cn/news/2021-08-31/d...r7342941.shtml

China's Tianwen 1 Mars mission will be inactivated for about 50 days from mid-September due to an expected disruption of its communications with Earth caused by solar electromagnetic radiation, the mission's chief designer said.

During the period, which will end in early November, the Zhurong rover and the mission's orbiter will suspend their working mode, Zhang Rongqiao of the China National Space Administration told reporters on Monday. The rover had been operating on the Red Planet for 100 days as of Monday, while the orbiter has been circling Mars since February.

"During that time, the Earth, Mars and the sun will almost be in a straight line and the distance between Earth and Mars will be farthest," Zhang said. "The sun's electromagnetic radiation will greatly affect the communication between the rover, the orbiter and ground control."
