SUMMARY: New observations from the Solar and Heliospheric Observatory (SOHO) has helped solar astronomers trace the source of the Sun's solar wind. The solar wind is a constant stream of protons, alpha particles, heavy ions and electrons flowing from the Sun. The solar wind had been seen streaming from various regions on the Sun, but scientists have now been able to work out the structure of funnel-shaped magnetic fields that carry material from below the surface of the Sun, and eject it into space.

This is an interesting new finding.

It confirms that solar magnetic fields "carry material from below the surface of the Sun, and eject it into space."

That was also the conclusion of a paper, "Superfluidity in the solar interior: Implications for solar eruptions and climate" published a couple of years ago in the Journal of Fusion Energy 21 (2003) pp. 193-198.

    Superfluidity in the Solar Interior

The upward flow of ions along magnetic fields raises another important question:

    1. Are the magnetic fields deep-seated as the above paper concludes? If so the upward moving ions may act as a carrier gas that separates atoms by mass throughout the entire Sun.

    2. Are the magnetic fields made in the outer part of the Sun? If so the mass separation would be limited to the outer part of the Sun.

    With kind regards,

    Oliver

Sort of like solar winds are the perspiration and body odor of the sun expelled through magnetic pores?

The solar wind is more like smoke escaping from the chimney of the magnetic, high-efficiency furnace that powers the sun.
