The subject photo is still unreferenced. I think it has been cropped from AS14-66-9277.

In the DVD that came with Godwin anthology Apollo 11 volume 3, I isolated the exact frame of the DAC footage quoted as occuring at 50:58 on the DVD. By comparing it to the time when AS11-40-5874 appeared, I think I determined that the frame in question was taken at 110:08:49 GET, but it may be a few seconds out.

There are actually several dangling references in Clavius. I've been trying this week to clean some of them up. (For some reason it's never as much fun to go back to old pages as it is to write new ones.)

Correctly citing the 16mm DAC footage is quite a trick. You can give reel and frame numbers, which is best since it's time-lapse. You can give GET references. And many of the frames have JSC or KSC reference numbers since they're released as still photographs. Sigh.

Thanks for the help, though. I'll continue the retrospective documentation fixes with renewed vigor.

BTW, if anyone knows who made the annotations on several of the photos which are captioned "Annotations by unknown third party" I'd like to know. I want to give credit to the source.

I first saw these particular annotations from reading http://batesmotel.8m.com/ by Ken Overstreet. I don't know if he's the originator of them.

Those pics are definately from a 1997 magazine The X-Factor issue 2 published by Marshall Cavendish in the UK. This picture...

...is the clincher. You can see the vertical line down the photo where the scan of the pics has crossed the centre divide of the pages. Also, the purple on the left is the same colour as the page surrounding the photos. Other evidence is that the croppings of all the photos is done in such a way as to avoid other text, page numbers, etc on the pages. Not conclusive, but highly suggestive that these pics are from that magazine. I scanned these images myself a few years ago and posted them on a friends website with a bit of an argument about why it was wrong. I may be the source of these photos... Has anyone asked Kevin Overstreet?

    This seems most likely.

Has anyone asked Kevin [Ken] Overstreet?

Yes; he said he didn't make the annotations but he didn't say where he got the photos. I haven't heard anything more from him. For me it was simply one more person who used the photos without knowing for sure where they came from.

Overstreet hardly surprised us with his lack of investigator's integrity, but I don't think preparing a proper investigation was his objective.

That would explain why the annotations make no sense. Why use numbers sometimes and letters at others. The numbers are simply figure numbers while the letters are what point things out. Perhaps J was supposed to point out the rendezvous radar antenna while K was to point out the MESA.

While we're on the subject (we're not really but never mind),

    http://www.clavius.org/bibdave32.html
    and
    http://www.clavius.org/house.html

don't have any links on the site. It's a shame to have that great work, especially the first one, lost in the domain.

I'm trying to track down my origional scans... And the web address for the site they were posted on. I can then look it up in web archives, however that is done!

I'm almost sure it wasn't. If my information is correct, he did this page while he was a high school student primarily to irritate his science teacher! If that same information is correct, Ken lives within walking distance of my house. I'd really like to meet him.

I don't regard this as a "finished" page. I wrote it with the intent of making it part of Clavius, but wanted to give Dave a chance to respond and clarify the questions. In its completed form it will be linked and will also contain a link to Dave's site as a proper citation of authority.

    http://www.clavius.org/house.html

    Hm, that's an oversight.

Here's a handy link I always use when searching for stuff on Jay's site (or any other site for that matter):

I know, I know. One of my "to do" list items is to put a search function on the site.

In this definition, there is a link under "hypergolic" that goes nowhere.
    http://www.clavius.org/hypergolic

Was it supposed to be http://www.clavius.org/bibdict.html#hypergolic ?

All you really need to do is to create an entry that calls up the link that Ian provides.
Everything I need to know I learned through Googling.

Wow..9 years. At least there was a good reason for the "update".

...and I'll wager there's a good "story" behind how Kevin came to be working for you.

In the nine years since he put together that site as a teenage joke, he has become a very talented computer system administrator. In fact, for the past nine years he has been working for the hosting company that hosts Clavius.

I swear, you can't make this stuff up.

The scariest part is that you knew to necromance.

I have a simple suggestion. Create a page from the template called Sitemap (listed on the index page) and put a link to all pages on it.

That would require Jay to update the site. That's something he hasn't done in years. It must now be treated as UXO.

The man just replied in a thread that had been dead for 9 years. You make it sound like a problem.

Not only that, but it's a good sign that Jay got his site right in the first place, and it's solid enough information that it has held up for all this time.

I've made a few changes here and there as needed, but I haven't added substantial new content in a few years. I'm reviewing the site and converting it to a authoring tool, and this consumes most of the time I devote to Clavius on an ongoing basis. I've also arranged for it to be hosted as a public service, no longer at my expense.

Rather than discuss my site here at BAUT, where it is relevant but nonetheless a guest, please continue to post your suggestions, comments, and criticism to the official feedback site: http://apollohoax.proboards.com/index.cgi
