    Fraser. I think the quote from Ms Atkinson re: Prof. Chinian.."the energy from uranium in the surrounding rocks", or some such...is incorrect. The bacteria get their energy from sulfate reduced to sulfides, as in :http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sulfate-reducing_bacteria


    pete. As far as I know, no bacteria metabolizes uranium or alphas or betas or gammas...not even the Hulk. They should be similar in chemical function to the hot smoker bacteria under the oceans around thermal vents, and the thermophiles of Yellowstone and Iceland.
