61F, calm winds, and smoky. The Swan Lake fire down on the Kenai Peninsula now involves more than 30,000 acres and while we've been getting smoke from it over the last few days, it was much thicker this morning. I stopped at my neighborhood gas station before going to work and took this snap of my mountain. Google Street View image included for comparison.

Distances to the mountain range from 1 to 3 miles. The fire is about 61 miles from my house, to the southwest.

Hot & Sticky here for the rest of the week. No rain since the 4 inches we got 2 weeks ago and it's getting dry now. Had to water all the gardens this morning. Beats getting a flood and/or damaging winds fer sure.

Extreme heat & humidity here today, 95F, My tee shirt was soaked (by me) in less than 10 minutes outside. Tomorrow will be 97F and worse. 2 bad daze to stay indoors and hope the power/AC stays on. A slim chance of a storm tonite but I'll take it if we can get an inch of rain from it....or any rain at this point. Air quality warnings nearby, probably here tomorrow.

Reverse that image, place in New England with a small hovel atop it--and you have The Strange High House in the Mist

We did get brushed by a shower just south of us around 2:30pm, it was heavy down there, very light here. It cooled things down with cloudy skies which helped a lot even without much rain, a trace so far. Storms still lurking around the area, just hit & miss. I heard on the radio that it hit 112F somewhere in France today, kinda tough on the soccer teams.

A passing shower teased us with 0.1 inch, it did cool things down into the 80's. Other than another 80's break tomorrow it's going to be a Hot week ahead, July is looking to put the hell in hell-o.

Hot, with no rain in sight, and more heat through the week. Highs in the mid to upper 90s F (mid to upper 30s for fans of Anders Celsius and Jean-Pierre Christin).

    Or about 309K.

  18. #6798
Kind of overcast but suppose to sunny hopefully the clouds will burn off, plenty of things I should be doing moving wood, putting the belt on the tiller or I have some boxes to move. Somebody changed cable tv and internet providers and the Co-ax cable and under or around the boxes.

Temp hit 99Fyesterday which sparked up an isolated thunderstorm right over us. Picked up 0.84 inch of rain to refresh the heat weary gardens. A similar day is expected today.

  21. #6801
Now that we have some heat and sun it is going to humid as well, tomorrow 34 C and going to feel like 40 C and of course it is when I will be moving around furniture for 4 of 5 hours a day, lots of fluids.

Last evening we were hit with more lightning and heavy rains, here at the house it topped off at 2 inches and that was on top of ~1 inch the day before. Right now (late day) is the time these storms drop in, nothing much is presently close by on the radar but these guys can be sneaky. A storm front is passing over the mtns now ~100 miles west of here, hopefully it will poop itself out before it reaches this far east. I'm very glad to get the rains as it's been dry of late, but any more right now may crack open some near ripe melons and the thin skinned heirloom tomatoes,....but that's another story ;-)

The Great Alaska Heat Wave of 2019 continues. Anchorage set a new record high of 90F yesterday, busting the previous high of 85F set in 1969. Our personal weather station here in Peters Creek registered 92F.

Today is July 5, the day I customarily declare to be the start of summer in this region. It's dismal.

We have, however, had a very nice June.

Well it started hot and muggy even in the morning as I waiting to driving into the auction I went and checked the garden out a few potato bugs on the potatoes and I took a few pictures and uploaded one to the internet and left my phone their by mistake. Then went to the auction worked in air conditioning for a couple of hours then work for several hours back forth unto the truck and back. Saw a big storm coming in and said I probably be on my to store or just get to the store. After finishing packing the truck went by sisters to see if I could use the phone to call home and my mother dog sitting because most of the family to a campground but there were a lot other dogs and my sisters was getting over surgery. Went to the grocery store to pick up a few things and the storm hit. While going the store met with my 6th grade teacher. He asked how I was and what I was doing. He was probably favorite teacher but a few years after I had as a teacher he had a nervous breakdown and couldn't teach anymore. Got to the cashier and lighting came down and so did here terminal. Got home and my mother had go back into town to keep an eye on the dog. I just finished cooking a couple of hamburgers and now downloading Skeptic guide to the Universe.

Super Muggy today with thunder all around but we only got a sprinkle thank goodness, and the rest of the day/evening looks calm, very warm, and still Super Muggy. Went thru 3 Tee shirts and 4 bandannas today, and I recycle them, ugh.. Garden needs weeding now (tomorrow) but today's time was eaten up by tying up the staked tomato plants and other garden chores. The threat of storms and heavy rains will persist for 3 more daze, so they say.
