I think most remakes old and new, come across as cynical attempts to cash in on an established franchise without investing the creative effort of coming up with their own original ideas. A reflex action to milk more money from a cash cow.

For last week's column, I came up with a way to remake Herbie Goes to Monte Carlo and make it good.

That copied post could have been a failed attempt at spam. Note that it's a new member's first and only post.

Spammers sometimes copy others' posts and then add links to whatever garbage they're pushing.

And to stay on topic, not unlike what Hollywood does these days.

    "These days".

Plagiarism of fiction is literally as old as literature. Probably much older in oral form.

Thank you to the one member who reported the spam post. For some reason, I got zero results when I searched selected text within the thread, the forum, and the Internet at large. So, I approved the post, thinking they would eventually out themselves.

As for the folks who commented on it within the thread, Iím afraid thatís a no thank you. Publicly calling out bad behavior is also a violation of the rules. Please use the report button.

Bookmarked. Always nice to learn a friend is a deathling. I created her TVTropes page. Not that she'd care, but I felt someone had to.
