    Painting

I came across a video that was on Disocvery Channel Canada a couple of weeks ago that shows some applied astronomy. There is a painting by a famous Canadian artist who seemed to be an amateur astronomer as well. The astronomer in the video decides to use the stars in one of his paintings to find where it was painted exactly. Anyway, here it is:

This concept was applied to Van Gogh's "Starry Night", too:

I challenged those claims about Starry Night in another thread. It didn't excite much interest in the BABB, though.

    =D> Nice clip, Supreme Canuck.

Well thank you, but I think that the Discovery Channel should get some credit, too.

The above link talks a little of the moon anomaly you brought up being perhaps due to when he started and finished the painting. Then there's always the "artistic license" possibility. Found it interesting he did this while in lock-up.

very cool movie. I was wondering though, at one point he said that it wouldn't be "scientific proof" that it was truly the correct spot; would it even be possible to prove something like that or would it be pure speculation?

Well there's no way to be absolutely sure, but it seems to be pretty accurate to me. Really though, it is just speculation. Without more information, it is impossible to be sure of it.
