I wasn't exactly sure where to plop this thread as it covers quite a bit of ground (visually).

Has anyone else seen the sts-119 solid rocket re-entry video? Here is a link:

Please note: possibly NSFW ads on site.

The video itself is breathtaking. And it illustrates a great many things we cover here on a regular basis - lens issues, motion of particles in space and around an object and so on.

I just think its a fantistic video.

I've seen similar before, but I think this is the first time I've seen one with the actual sound.
A lot of pinging going on.

You get to see shots of the other booster, and glimpses of the shuttle exhaust.

What's the occasional plume that we see from the boosters? Is that leftover smoking of the rocket, or is that an atmospheric effect (or both)?

Different angle from liftoff to sep (and a bit more) on the second half of the video. No sound.

I'm not sure what the puffs are. Someone with more experience, I hope, will answer that one. The sound is pretty interesting - it sort of puts you 'on' the rocket in a sense.
