    Type Ia supernovae all explode with nearly the same amount of energy and therefore have almost the same intrinsic brightness.
    I think it might be more accurate to say that Type 1a supernovae remnants all have close to the same amount of Ni56 decaying and therefore have alost the same intrinsic brightness. The actual energy of the explosion isn't really observed. Still, another great article by Nancy!
