    IBEX "Giant Ribbon" mystery solved

    http://science.nasa.gov/headlines/y2....htm?list14592

Last year, NASA's IBEX (Interstellar Boundary Explorer) spacecraft discovered an unexpected "giant ribbon" at the edge of the solar system, mystifying researchers. Now the mystery may have been solved.

The model is a rather nice match to the observations, don't you think?

Don't try to placate a reservoir engineer. I'm not going to accept the first match as case closed.

This almost sounds like a reverse Northern Lights writ large across the heliosphere.

I was about to ask if energy from this "galactic magnetic field" could be harnessed to drive an interstellar spacecraft, then I read the footnotes...5 microgauss isn't a lot of energy density...oh, well...still pretty cool, though!
